Protecting The Workplace: The Do’s and Don’ts of Cybersecurity

As hackers are getting smarter and technology becoming ever more complicated, the importance of cybersecurity has reached an all-time high. In order to protect yourself against the unknown, we are going to give you 4 quick tips that will make your work and personal environment more secure.

Use different passwords for your work and personal accounts.

When it comes to basic security, this one is key. Keep your passwords separate between work and personal accounts. If either side is to become compromised, you want to mitigate as much damage as possible by having different passwords. It may be tough keeping track of multiple passwords, but we want to do our best in not only protecting ourselves, but also the company we work for.

Properly lock/store devices when done with use.

When you’re done with work for the day, make sure you lock and turn off your laptop/computer properly. If someone is able to get ahold of your open device, they could easily gain access to sensitive work information. If you share a device with another individual or use a public device, be sure to log out all accounts and delete any information that may have been downloaded to the device.

Double Check Strange Emails

Hackers use a technique known as phishing, which is sending a malicious email and exploiting human error to gain access to sensitive information. If you receive an email from and unknown address or a strange email from someone that might be posing as a coworker/supervisor, be sure to double check the source before responding. You never know who could be trying to steal information!

Share the least amount of info needed to accomplish a job.

Many projects that we work require sharing the Google Drive space. When sharing files with coworkers, practice the idea of least privilege. Least privilege is the idea of giving someone access to the least amount of information possible for them to complete their job. If you happen to over share with the wrong coworker, they could have access to sensitive information that they aren’t supposed to see.
